Since 1978, Hackney Ames & Company, PA has provided quality, personalized financial guidance to individuals and businesses. Our areas of expertise range from basic to complex tax management and accounting services, payroll and payroll tax services, providing financial statements and financial planning; to more in-depth services such as estate planning, and tax preparation for trusts and not-for-profit organizations.

William A. Hackney, Jr., CPA - Partner/Shareholder

Bill graduated from DeSoto High School, then went on to the University of Florida. He received his CPA certificate in 1978 while working for Andersen Consulting. Shortly afterwards, he joined with Gene Doke and Ron Burns to form the firm of Doke Burns & Hackney CPAs, with offices in Wauchula and Arcadia. Bill has also been involved in countless community projects, and became a member of Leadership Florida in 1999. He and his wife, Debbie, have two children, Sarah and Joshua. His areas of expertise include: Transfers and Mergers of Business Interests, Hot Topics in Estate Planning, Advanced Excel Report Development and the Ins and Outs of S Corporations

Andrew T. Ames, CPA, CFP ® - Partner/Managing Shareholder

Andy also graduated from DeSoto High School, and received his undergraduate accounting degree from Florida Southern in 1990. He completed his required post-baccalaureate accounting studies at the University of Central Florida and Florida Southern, and became a CPA in 1994. Andy became an Investment Advisor in 1999 and a Certified Financial Advisor in 2003. He became Managing Partner in 2018. Andy and his wife, Pam, are Arcadia natives. They have two sons, Landon and Haydon. Recently, he has taken continuing education courses covering such subjects as: Employment and Retirement Tax Issues Critical Tax Issues for S Corporations and is also a QuickBooks ProAdvisor.

Matthew J. Reichel, CPA - Partner/Shareholder

Matt grew up in Aiken, South Carolina. He attended Clemson University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Financial Management. He then went on to obtain a Master's degree in Professional Accountancy. His college roommate was from Wauchula, and while visiting the roommate's family, he fell in love with Florida. For over seven years, Matt continued to visit, and in the meantime (in South Carolina) met his future wife - who is coincidentally from Hardee County. They married, and moved to Wauchula from Charleston, SC, where Matt was working with the largest public accounting firm headquartered in the Southeast. Matt and his wife, Savanah, reside in Wauchula with their three children; Reese, Palmer Grace and Tripp. They enjoy being active, take pleasure in the outdoors and love spending time with family and friends while remembering that life is not all about the numbers.

Jeff grew up in Atlanta, GA. He attended Auburn University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Finance. He later attended Mercer University earning a master’s degree in Accounting. In 2007, he married his wife, Anne (Jones), a Wauchula native. They have two boys, ages 6 and 8. In 2017, they decided to move from Atlanta to Wauchula for the small-town atmosphere and to be closer to family. In their spare time, Jeff and his family enjoy camping, going to the beach, and spending time with friends and family.

Luis was born in Zacatecas, Mexico but grew up in Arcadia. He graduated from DeSoto High School in 2000. He completed his Associate of Arts degree from South Florida State College before attending Florida Gulf Coast University for his BS and Master in Accounting. He began working at Hackney Ames & Co in December of 2004 as a Staff Accountant. He then moved into the position of Senior Accountant 10 years later. He became an Enrolled Agent in 2017. In his spare time he enjoys playing volleyball, tennis and running.

Danna L. VanSickle, EA/Staff Accountant

Danna joined our firm in October of 2019. She is licensed by the Internal Revenue Service as an Enrolled Agent and holds a BS in Accounting from the University of South Florida. She has over 15 years of experience in tax preparation, accounting services, and payroll services. One of her passions is being able to support her clients and watch them grow and succeed in all their endeavors. Danna is a member of the National Association of Enrolled Agents (NAEA), Florida Society of Enrolled Agents (FSEA), and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Danna and her husband, James, are lifelong residents of Hardee County. They have three boys, Quentin, Holden, and Zayden that they homeschool. The family enjoys fishing, hunting, and just being together in their spare time. Danna loves all things 4-H and is a local 4-H club leader. She enjoys inspiring youth to be their best and helping them along the way.

Geneva joined our staff in September of 1990 as the Administrative Assistant of the Arcadia office. She attended South Florida State College for career-related classes such as Accounting I and II, Business Finance, and took QuickBooks and Excel classes. She completed a Dale Carnegie Training Program Course for Effective Communications which she enjoys implementing in her daily work routine. She and her husband, Fred, have been married since 1970, and they are both graduates of DeSoto High School, which is where they met. They are the proud parents of two wonderful daughters, and from them have one granddaughter and two grandsons. She is extremely family oriented, and enjoys spending time with all of them above anything else; but also loves fishing, cooking and the outdoors.

Colleen J. Timmons, Office Manager Wauchula

Colleen started with our firm in January of 2012 as the Office Manager of our Wauchula location. She loves visiting and working with clients, and goes out of her way to help them. She loved learning the QuickBooks program, and has completed a course at South Florida State College for it. Colleen and her husband, Ed moved to Wauchula in 2001, and continue to reside there with their two dogs, Teddy Bear the Cocker Spaniel and Buffy the Springer Mix. She enjoys shopping, going to the beach, and visiting with friends.
